Email Marketing Tips To Get You Started
Let's start with some basics - What Is Email Marketing?
Email marketing is a highly effective digital marketing strategy for sending emails to prospects and customers. Effective marketing emails convert prospects into customers and turn one-time buyers into loyal, raving fans.
Here are some marketing tips you can start implementing today!
1) Make an Email Marketing Plan
Design your email - Add Personalization - Mobile friendly design – branding guidelines - Ensure your opt-in process complies with GDPR.
2) Valuable Content - Keep It Brief
Whether you’re writing subject lines or body copy, make everything as long as it needs to be, and no more. Here are some basic guidelines to follow:
- Keep sentences under 25 words, and paragraphs under three sentences.
- Aim for 17-24 characters when writing subject lines. There’s no real “best subject line length,” but a shorter copy is more likely to avoid getting cut off on mobile devices.
- Get to the point. Every word and sentence in your email should serve a clear purpose. If it doesn’t, then remove it.
3) Catchy subject line
Do you want your email content opened, read, and clicked? It all starts with the subject line. That's why it's so important to craft subject lines that are compelling enough to get people to click through.
4) Include one call to action
An email marketing call to action is a button or hyperlinked line of text that directs a user to a website of a brand’s choosing. The point of a CTA is to drive consumers to action.
Example: CTAs that encourage a purchase
- Shop now
- Sign up now
- Register today
5) Add social sharing buttons
In an email, social media buttons provide a secondary call to action. Share icons ask readers to share a specific piece of content—Tweet the story or Pin the picture, etc. Yes! More free exposure so you want to make sure you have share icons on all your email campaigns.
6) Plan Your Email Schedule Around the Best Days to Send
This will be up to you to take a look at your analytics and when your target audience is most engaged during the week and what hours of the day.
Fan Favorites: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday have traditionally been favorite days to send email campaigns, as email marketers seek to avoid the Monday blue and Friday’s get-off work feels. MailChimp confirms that Tuesday and Thursday are the two most popular days to send email newsletters
7) Subscribe bonus
60% of users sign up for an email newsletter to receive offers and sales. So push it – push it good.
Example: Try offering an instant incentive for becoming a newsletter subscriber. If you're doing email marketing for an e-commerce site, you might offer a 20% discount voucher.
8) Measure your results & build your list
Try placing your signup forms in several different locations to see where your subscribers are coming from—you might be surprised by what you find.
The bottom line is if you’ve been ignoring email marketing, it’s time to re-evaluate your strategy. Email marketing delivers huge returns for marketers willing to learn how to do it right. It doesn’t have to be too complicated.
